Shelley Dring – a warm welcome to and from MBC’s new Church Lead

Shelley Dring’s first contact with MBC was when she was attending St Stephens Church in Moortown and our then minister invited her and her husband Nathan to join us on a church holiday. Little did any of us know what lay ahead and that just a few years, and a pandemic later she would be resoundingly voted in as our new Church Lead.

Above you can see a gallery of just some of the hundreds of pictures we have of Shelley; some quite formal others ever so slightly embarrassing.

If we can pin her down long enough to get her to draw breath I’m going to ask Shelley to write a piece for the website telling those of us that couldn’t be at the meeting a little of her vision and why she feels this is a call from God. Equally important of course are the thoughts she has for continuing to build MBC into a church that  puts Jesus front and centre of everything we do.

In the meantime, and despite having known you for quite some time it’s our pleasure to say welcome aboard and God bless you.

Covid – a word of warning as infections rise

Howard Dews, MBC Health and Safety guide has sent us this. It’s a an extract from a short article written by Senior Health official Dame Jenny Harries.

“Unfortunately Covid cases are on the rise again as are hospital admissions. Recent government advice is that people should go about their normal lives but in a ‘precautionary way.”

Hand sanitiser continues to be available around church. As in other situations wearing of face coverings remains optional / personal preference. If you are experiencing Covid symptoms we would ask you not to come to church (unless you have had a negative lateral flow test).

For organisers of events, since its summer and warm weather, please ensure sensible ventilation in rooms such as opening windows or doors.

Keep well and enjoy the summer!

Church Meeting – 7.30pm, Tuesday 12th July

Next Tuesday, the 12th of July we have a very special Church Meeting.

As many of you will already know via the email we sent out earlier in the week next Tuesday your Leadership Team will be proposing a motion that MBC offers Shelley Dring the permenant role of Church Lead. This decision follows much debate amongst ourselves, long discussions with Shelley and of course tons of prayer.

Naturally we would like to see as many of you as we can in church but for those who cannot make it in person we are arranging for the meeting to be broadcast on Zoom.

After doing the job for the best part of two years and being laregly responsible for steering MBC into what we would like to think is a period of post Covid recovery your Leadership Team are confident that Shelley – alongside a team of “specialist volunteers” is absolutely the right person to lead this church into a new, exciting, challenging and dare we say possibly very different era.

One important thing to note about next Tuesday, and we have alluded to it above is the fact that as we have all seen Shelley in action for some considerable time i.e. we know her, her style, her theology etc. etc. we have asked that instead of coming to “meet us”, or as it were “preaching with a view” she either Zooms or pre-records a message which we will show in church.

In other words on the night there will no formal Q and A session. Instead, and based on what we already know, and more importantly on what we believe God is saying to us a discussion amongst members taking in the finance aspect of this proposal,  prayer and then hopefully a vote is all that will be required.

Sunday July 10th – “I am the gate” – John 10

Dear friends

It was great to see so many of you at café church on Sunday to hear all about Jesus the light of the world.  Its good to remember that although we see the darkness, even a small amount of light makes a massive difference in changing our perspective, enhancing vision and orientation.  Robert reminded us that God’s word is a light for us all and when we face shadows, God’s word shows us the next step, even if it is a step at a time.  Emma painted a picture to show us the effects of God’s light against the dark. We had an update about Romania and Ukraine News, pics and film from Rod and Karen in Romania – Moortown Baptist Church as well as hearing stories from The Gathering The Gathering (thegatheringformen.com).

This Sunday we move onto John 10:1-10 when Jesus says ‘I am the gate’.  It will be live in the building 11-12midday or on our YouTube channel Moortown Baptist Church – YouTube.

Just a heads up too that the Admin assistant role is still on the website.  Interviews are being planned so if you feel God might be calling you to a role like this to support the work of the church in Leeds then do have an informal conversation with myself or any of the Leadership team, no obligation. Its an interesting time for the church and a good time to shape a new role within a team  Administrative Assistant needed at MBC – Moortown Baptist Church.

Finally a Wednesday night house group at MBC has just started a series finding out about the Holy Spirit and the role the spirit plays in our lives.  If its something that you would like to find out more about too then you are really welcome to join them.  Its 7.30 until 9pm in church and on zoom tonight and most Wednesdays.  For more information feel free to chat to Ruth or Andy Berry, Krys Gadd or Shelley or Nathan Dring.

There are other groups throughout the week and I’ll keep you updated over the next few weeks.  Also there will be news on events coming up and the Summer.

Yours in Christ

Shelley
