Table Top Sale – to help a Women’s Development Centre in Sri Lanka

One of our Deacons, Krystina Gadd, is a keen supporter of a Women’s Development Centre in Sri Lanka and on November 11th she is organising a Table Top Sale here at MBC.

There are only 15 tables in total and each cost £10 to hire so if you want to get some early Christmas shopping done or you want to sell some of the stuff you have been lovingly crafting over the year here’s the opportunity.

If you yourself are crafty, however and making things has been your life long ambition you can of course also buy some bits and bobs at the sale to set yourself on the road to a brand new hobby.

Please contact Krys or Lesley Murphy in the Admin Office to buy a ticket.

Visit of John Wilson – Beacon Café Monday 23rd October

Our BMS Mission Partner in France, John Wilson, will be attending Beacon on October 23rd.

John and his wife Sue have a long association with MBC and their work in France as pastors and youth leaders has proved fruitful for over 30 years.

Even if you don’t regularly attend Beacon come along on the 23rd have a chat with John and hear something of the story of their church and the growing work of Baptist churches in France.

Table Top Sale – to help a Women’s Development Centre in Sri Lanka

One of our Deacons, Krystina Gadd, is a keen supporter of a Women’s Development Centre in Sri Lanka and just before Christmas (November 11th) she is organising a Table Top Sale here at MBC.

There are only 15 tables in total and each cost £10 to hire so if you want to get some early Christmas shopping done or you want to sell some of the stuff you have been lovingly crafting over the year here’s the opportunity.

Please contact Krys or Lesley Murphy in the Admin Office to either book your table or to buy a ticket.

Krys recently announced that if you would like to buy some crafter tools or donate some money to enable the team to actually buy some themselves that’s another way of supporting the effort.

Shelley – 7th October

Dear friends

Hope you don’t get put off by the length of this email and feel free to take it in small chunks.  I just wanted to make sure I pass on what I know about the next few weeks.

We meet again on Sunday at 11am to continue the story in Ezra Nehemiah and we get to Chapter 7 where Ezra arrives!*

We will be live on our youtube channel, look up Moortown Baptist Church, and there will be a group for our younger friends during the talk. We’ll have a pause from Ezra next Sunday 15th October when we welcome Mark Grant at 11am to share some of his story about being a Jew who found faith in Jesus.  He’ll be looking at Abraham and Sarah and I am sure there will be links to all we are discovering in Ezra Nehemiah.  Then on the 22nd of October I will be sharing from the end of the Ezra story, wondering what we have discovered so far and looking forward to what that might mean.

NOTE…  *The events in Ezra 7 take place years later than the rebuilding of the temple by Zerubbabel and the Jews during the reign of King Darius of Persia in 515BC.  Ezra 7 is in the reign of King Artaxerxes, when Ezra led a second wave of Jews back to Jerusalem.  During the sixty year interval between Zerubbabel and Ezra, the events of the book of Esther took place in Persia…

Although I am around in the week, Sunday 8th October is the second of two Sunday’s I am away, so I look forward to catching up with you when I am back on Monday.

Thanks to those who helped to take the food to the foodbank last week following our harvest week!  The food bank said they were running really low so thank you so much!  Thanks Geoff for taking all the Caring for Life money too.  Updates on amounts soon!

See you soon

Harvest – a magnificent responce to our appeals.

Another magnificent result to our 2023 Harvest Appeal… more carrier bags filled with everything on their wanted list than you could count and in cash terms just a pound or two short of £350. Collectively these will be donated to the two charities you see above – that Caring for Life and the Leeds North and West Food Bank.

Thank you.

A work in progress… new direction signs, new double glazed windows for the old Church Hall and a totally new sound system.

Last week we brought you news of some major financial investments in MBC. They were a completely new sound  unit which will not only make serving in but listening to the band an altogher more fulfilling experience. Two was to rip out the old single glazed windows in the Old Church Hall and replace them with new double glazed units. And three was to have new direction signs attached to our walls.

We’ll keep you up to speed with the other developments as they happen but beginning with the smallest above are two of the three direction signs we have alreay had fitted… the big one that looks out over the roundabout is still in production.

This major investment is not simply a flight of fancy for a small number of brilliant musicians, it is an investment in the future of MBC and our aim, with God’s help, to take Jesus way beyond our doors and deep into ther heart of our community.

Dear friends

Just a reminder that we are meeting again this morning at 11 in the building and online to start our new series on Ezra and Nehemiah from the bible.  We’ll sing and pray too and there will be some activities for our younger friends.

Following the service we have our short get together about Christmas for anyone who has thoughts on what they would like to do or share.  Feel free to bring a sandwich.

Rock Solid for our young people takes place in church 7-8pm tonight.

I have a list of the extra things that are happening over October and November that I will send out tomorrow.  Do ask if there is anything you’d like to know about or you have thoughts about.

Last week was a very full week in the life of MBC church.  We had the usual activities of Beacon café, stepping stones, bible studies and craft group but also a good church meeting to share some significant things being considered in the church.  Thank you for your prayer and involvement in that.  For those who have asked questions afterwards I am working my way through and will get back to you by this week. We will keep you updated on the new garden area, new windows and a new sound system across church. More news on how you can be involved soon but please talk to myself or a deacon if you have questions.

Many people joined for Wednesday worship too as they considered Gods promises.  Good to remember in all that is happening that God is faithful.  Do keep praying for those who are struggling or unwell at this time in our community and your visits to them I know are much appreciated. We also thank God for answered prayers.

Today is the last day to bring your harvest gifts for the foodbank and money for Caring for life as we will be distributing them this week.  Geoff has already sent off much of the money given for Caring for life already so he may have an update for us soon.  Thank you to all those who have contributed to this on Sunday and throughout the week.

See you soon

In Christ

Shelley
