The Baptist Assembly 13th – 16th May 2021. Online and open to all!

In normal times, the annual assembly of UK Baptist Churches, organised by the Baptist Union and BMS World Mission, takes place over a long weekend in May or early June at a different venue each year. MBC usually sends its minister and/or official delegates.

In these Covid times, this year’s “Assembly” will be an online affair open to all both as individuals and churches. This gives all of us the opportunity, from our sofas, to share in the national activities of Baptist Churches and to worship and celebrate with fellow Christians from around the country.

The keynote speaker will be Shane Claiborne – an American evangelical speaker, activist and author. The Theme is:

“Heal our Hearts; Heal our Streets; Heal our World”

The Programme Outline is:

  • Thurs May 13th 7 – 7.45pm – In Memoriam – those we have lost.
  • Fri May 14th 7 – 9.30pm – Worship with address by Shane Claiborne
  • Saturday 15th May – 30am Baptist Union AGM
  • 11am Bible Study “Dwelling in the Word”
  • 12 noon BMS presentation – celebrating transforming 1 million lives and unveiling the new strategy for mission.
  • 2 – 4.30pm Choice of Seminars on:
  • ‘We can’t breathe until you can’ (racial justice)
  • ‘Children, Young People and Families -building back better’
  • ‘Walking with Jesus through a Changing Climate’
  • ‘Mission Threads’
  • 5 – 6pm Shane Claiborne Q & A

  Sunday May 16th 10.30am – 11.40 am Sunday Service for All

With Shane Claiborne as speaker. This is a chance to share in National Worship. We are all encouraged to join in this service – usually the high spot of the Assembly

Anyone is free to join any part of this programme via the www.baptist.org.uk website.

OR you can register beforehand to be sent emails with joining instructions. Registration also enables you to choose the seminars you want to attend live. (Note – all will be recorded and available later). Register via the website.

As we seek to build MBC “back better” we pray this Assembly may be a great encouragement, challenge and inspiration to us as individuals and as a church.

Bank Holiday Monday – Beacon takes a break

Hello lovely people. Thanks to all who came to Beacon Café this last Monday, it was wonderful to see so many of you there and to start to reconnect with people.

I had totally forgotten that it’s a Bank Holiday next Monday. That being the case we will not be running a Beacon Café on 3rd May (not sure about the 31st yet). However, we will be back to normal the following week.

Civil unrest in Chad – a response from BMS World Mission and from our Mission Partners Mark and Andrea Hotchkin

Dear Church Partner

We are writing to you to update you concerning the situation in Chad and your Church Partners; Andrea and Mark Hotchkin. As you may be aware from the news, Chad experienced significant unrest over the weekend of 17/18 April resulting in the death of the President.  The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has strongly advised that all UK personnel should leave Chad immediately and gave assistance in doing so.

We continue to be in touch with all BMS World Mission workers remaining in Chad, and all British Mission Personnel have left the country safely. Andrea and Mark were already in the UK and BMS were in the process of organising their return. They have asked us to attach their update to this email.

They would value your continued prayers for them and particularly for the hospital and the country in the coming weeks. You can get an update on the BMS website here.

Join Shelley as she takes part in Worship Wave – 24 hours of continuous Worship

Calling all children, families and the young at heart! We’re excited to have two sessions especially for you at the MIW Movement Wave with two brilliantly talented and wonderfully worshipful facilitators.
 
On Saturday join Shelley from 12.30-1.15pm for ‘Improvisation on a wave for all ages’ Feel free to bring ‘wave like’ material or drawing things or just bring yourself. And then between 2.45 and 3.30pm join Rachel for a kids and family creative special!

Glorious sunshine heralds the return of our Beacon Café

On a near perfect day MBC’s Beacon café reopened this last Monday with more than two dozen visitors dropping by. With social distance rules and strict hygiene protocols in place it was wonderful, after such a long period of closure to watch as face to face contact was reestablished.

Running alongside Beacon the church Music Room was open for private prayer and lurking in the bushes were Hilary, Nicky and Shelia, three of our regular gardeners. Beacon will be open as this week, and weather permitting in the carpark every Monday from 10am. Brilliant job Kate, thanks to you and to everyone else who helped. Well done. 

Plant Sale, Saturday 15th May – 2 til 4pm

Like many things over the last year the way we are planning our annual Plant Sale is changing. For now, however, here’s everything you need to know: When – Saturday 15th May, Time – 2pm-4pm, Where – Church Car Park, Proceeds to the Romania Support Group.
 
If you are bringing plants which you are growing for us would you please drop them off on the Saturday morning, there will be people at church to receive them (times tbc)
 
Also on the day please be sure to obey the by now familiar Covid-19 rules; no more than six people or two households in a group and please keep a safe distance from people in other groups.

Church at Home 18th April. Jesus the Friend

Sunday April 18th sees us looking at Jesus the friend. During our service we shall be unpacking the story of Jesus’ visit to Mary and Martha’s home based on the account we find in Luke chapter 10 verses 38 to 42. 

However, before our usual live stream welcome which you can join us for at 10.45am on facebook.com/moortownbaptistchurch or alternatively HERE Shelley will be hosting a 10am Zoom Communion, with invitations being sent out in the usual way.

Ahead of our annual Plant Sale MBC’s garden upgrade starts to take shape

With the ground leveled and the paving slabs on order MBC’s new outdoor seating area is fast taking shape. When completed the garden will feature benches, a table and a number of flower beds. Many thanks to those who helped prepare the ground and also of course to our volunteer gardeners who are working tirelessly to improve the church grounds.
 
However, like many things over the last twelve months the way we are planning our annual Plant Sale is changing. For now here’s everything you need to know: When – Saturday 15th May, Time – 2pm-4pm, Where – Church Car Park, Proceeds to the Romania Support Group.

Please observe the usual social distancing rules. No more than six people or two households in a group, please keep a safe distance from people in other groups.
 
Please be careful how and where you park as there will be people milling about. We suggest parking at the far end of the car park and along the front wall of church. The large area to the side of the Music Room will be being used for the sale.
